Structures’ Safety and Reliability Expert Centre

Structures’ Safety and Reliability Expert Centre is created to ensure rated life of buildings and hydraulic structures, reduce operating costs and increase the bearing capacity of the existing structural elements. It performs research and design work associated with determining the carrying capacity of buildings and structures in view of its dilapidation. The Center develops recommendations for proper building operation and maintenance issuing the certificate of quality (CBC). It also performs works on the development and review of declarations of safety of hydraulic structures. More than that Expert Center performs the dangerous or reconstruction required buildings surveys and develops recommendations for its further repair and safe operation.

Technical diagnostics research laboratory

The problem of operation of ship’s mechanical equipment with lifespan ended became more and more serious in recent years. The main danger lies in the metal fatigue, which cannot be detected by traditional methods of inspection, although it may be a reason of emergencies.

Specialists of the laboratory developed a method of diagnosing metal fatigue, which allows not only to determine the location of the stress concentration zones caused by these injuries, but also to evaluate the extent of the damage, and to predict the time to occurrence of fatigue defects. Methods are coordinated with the Russian River Register and Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and in 2004 was tested on the ships of the West Siberian River Shipping Company.

Research laboratory of ship repairing technology

In the course of investigations and subsequent testing in operational conditions, in the ship repairing laboratory scientists set up the recovery and hardening technology of the most loaded parts and components of the ship and port equipment. The established technologies used methods of plasma spraying of wear-resistant, heat-resistant, friction-proof and other coatings and also electro-spark alloying. Test runs at a base of the West Siberian river shipping company demonstrated that the life of restored parts is not less than for the brand new ones. The cost of recovery does not exceed 65% of the cost of new parts.

Scientific hydrodynamic model named after V.Pavlenko

Complex is created by well-known expert, luminary scientist, doctor of technical sciences Vladimir Georgievich Pavlenko. Research school of hydrodynamics performs investigations in the selection of the fleet that meets the specific watershed conditions, optimizing the parameters and contours of the hulls, the selection of the optimum propulsion and controls.

Theory of naval architecture chair has unique capabilities to study the hydrodynamic characteristics of ships and their propulsion, steering systems.

Test facility includes several types of basins:

  • Towing tank with dimensions of 70 × 6,5 × 3,5 m for straight line test;
  • Towing tank with rotating-arm facility.

Hydrodynamic model provides following research opportunities:

  1. Design of river ships, including the determining of performance, model testing.
  2. Ship theory calculations with testing the capacity of the vessel to stay in straight ahead motion without intervention, calculating vessel speed and course-keeping qualities.
  3. Ship Refining projects according to the River Register regulations;
  4. Ship reclassification opportunity analysis and project conception.
  5. Design of conversion and modernization of river ships, including the change of specialization, class, area of operation, carrying capacity, ice class, re-equipment of dry cargo vessels to oil tankers;
  6. Developing operating instructions;
  7. Calculation of stability and floodability;
  8. Design and calculations of rudder propeller systems;
  9. Production the propellers of cast and welded design.
  10. Calculation of strength of the ships during approval its class.
